Principal Duties and Responsibilities
To work in the Energy Division with an emphasis on power plant electrical design. A successful candidate would have an accomplished and demonstrable working knowledge of ac circuit analysis, symmetrical component analysis, electrical per unit system, equipment selection & sizing, schematic development, power plant design, and specification and proposal preparation.
Will be expected to provide both technical and managerial leadership to a team of engineers and designers in the development of calculations and other tasks described, below, under capabilities. Will be expected to perform personnel performance evaluations and interview prospective candidates for hiring. Will be expected to have excellent oral and written communication skills as well as the ability to adapt to multi-task time sharing on various simultaneous assignments.
The successful candidate should have some of the capabilities listed below. The successful candidate shall have the interest/desire to learn the other capabilities listed below.
Capabilities
-Review/critique vendor shop drawings against equipment specifications
-Design and/or review schematics for MV and LV switchgear
-Design and/or review schematics for generator and transformer protection schemes
-Design and/or review schematics for generator circuit breakers
-Design and/or review power plant auxiliary electrical system logic diagrams
-Design and/or review overall power plant phasing, one-line and three-line diagrams
-Perform auxiliary power system analysis (short circuit, load flow, and motor starting) and conceptual design, ETAP PowerStation experience a plus.
-Perform flash hazard analysis and provide mitigation recommendations
-Perform transient analysis including motor bus fast transfer analysis
-Perform generator step-up transformer sizing calculations
-Perform generator reactive power capability calculations
-Perform generator circuit breaker and isolated phase bus duct short-circuit calculations
-Develop power plant protective relaying philosophies and configurations
-Select current transformers for relaying protection
-Select protective relay types and styles
-Prepare protective relay calculations and settings
-Perform power circuit thermal analysis for underground cable systems
-Perform power circuit sizing, voltage drop, and impedance and short-circuit calculations
-Develop methods for selection and sizing of cables and cable systems, familiarity with cable industry standards and guides a plus
-Conduct formal training modules to mentor less experienced personnel
-Prepare, review, and modify B&V electrical standards and guides as well as identify any areas of deficiency in related existing documents
-Develop and enhance tools and methods for electrical power calculations
-Perform grounding system design, CDEGS experience a plus
-Perform lightning protection system design
Minimum Qualifications
-BS Electrical Engineering degree with a minimum of 10 years experience beyond college.
-Good written and verbal communications skills, able to work in a team environment.
-Must have good problem solving skills and be willing to travel.
-Have leadership abilities to lead a subgroup of engineers.
-Professional Registration or License
-Professional Engineering License
