Principal Engineer - Motion Control Automation Systems

CORE JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop & maintain system performance specifications supported by experimental data
Design and execute experimental investigations and convey expert knowledge of complex system design
Design precision motion control systems, including, but not limited to dynamic system modeling, kinematics computation, sensors, transducers, and actuators.
Propose and assess new design concepts and propose improvements and alternatives to existing designs considering cross-functional impact of integration
Facilitate effective interaction with other departments and provide guidance to technical personnel as needed
Develop & present materials for design review and champion design for manufacturability, reliability and serviceability
Follow all EHS rules and procedures for your department.
Report any EHS incidents and/or Near Misses (unsafe acts and conditions) promptly to supervision. Attend all required training and medical surveillance programs. Wear all PPE as required.
Forward any opportunities to improve the EHS program to supervision.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree (mechanical or electrical) with 8+ years of relevant experience. Master’s degree in engineering (mechanical or electrical) and/or physical science preferred.
Skills/Specialized Knowledge:
Architectures for control of electromechanical systems
Requirement-driven product development, including development of verifiable specifications
Experiment design, data interpretation & presentation
Precision motion control and robotics including, but not limited to dynamic system modeling, kinematics computation, sensors, transducers, and actuators.
Experience implementing, programming, and debugging real-time motion systems.
Solid software engineering and programming background, with experience in team application development.
Product commercialization and design transfer to manufacturing.
Complex algorithm development.
Preferred skills:
Statistical methods, LabView or Matlab
SolidWorks
Failure mode effects analysis (FMEA)
Risk management and hazard analysis
Design for manufacturability and serviceability
Experience in development of medical or life sciences instruments
