JOB TITLE: Transnuclear - Design Project Engineer

LOCATION: Columbia, Maryland

Transnuclear, Inc., a subsidiary of Areva and premier provider of storage and transportation of spent nuclear fuel and other radioactive materials, is seeking a Design Project Engineer.    
 
In regards to NUHOMS® Dry Shielded Canisters, NUHOMS® onsite transfer casks, TN Metal Storage Casks and transport packaging and rack systems, the ideal candidate will be responsible for: 

  • Supporting the design and continued development of existing and future product lines.
  • Contributing to the design efforts of key elements and preparation of related safety analysis reports.
  • Providing technical direction, oversight and contribute to the fabrication and design know-how for product improvement.
  • Supporting design changes and non-conformance evaluations.

 Qualifications

All candidates must meet the following minimum requirements in order to be considered for this Design Project Engineer opportunity.  Candidates who exceed minimum qualifications may be considered for a higher level position.
 
BS degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil or Structural) plus a minimum of 3 years of related engineering work experience.  A Master's degree may be substituted for 1-2 years of related work experience.  This position requires proficiency in the following areas:

  • Excellent organization, planning and priority setting skills
  • Ability to communicate well with regulatory authority
  • Demonstrated trouble shooting and problem solving ablities
  • Broad knowledge of mechanical, thermal, and nuclear design and analyses
  • Travel to customer sites and the NRC for meetings; estimate 5% or less
The following requirements are desired and will be used to differentiate all candidates who apply for this position.
 
 The ideal candidate will have experience with: 
  • ASME Section III (nuclear) pressure vessel design or fabrication
  • ASME Section VIII (chemical, refinery, etc.) pressure vessel design or fabrication
  • ASME Section IX repairs, replacements and modifications to nuclear power plants (steam generator replacements, reactor pressure vessel head replacements, etc.)
  • Design or fabrication of containers for spent nuclear fuel storage or transport
  • 10CFR Part 71 and Part 72
  • AISC, ACI 349, ACI 318, and ANSI N14.6 standards
