POSITION SUMMARY: Design and certify new avionics systems equipment and installations in FAR (Federal Aviation Regulations) part 23, 25, 27 and 29 aircraft. Assist in development of documentation for new avionics systems and maintenance of existing systems. Coordinate with FAA Aircraft Certification Office and other aviation regulatory agencies to assure system certification.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Create and review certification plans, requirements, test plans and reports, and other certification documentation
Perform as certification lead for gaining TSO authorization on equipment and STC airworthiness certification of aircraft installations
Provide guidance to on applicable regulations for TSO (Technical Standard Order), STC (Supplemental Type Certificate), and other aviation regulatory processes to aviation engineering
Design avionics systems equipment and installations and specify detailed equipment interconnect requirements
Analyze regulatory and safety aspects of new avionics systems equipment and installations
Prepare certification test reports and other compliance data for submission to the FAA
Prepare Functional Hazard Analysis and System Safety Analysis documentation in support of certification projects
Assist in preparation and verification of new installation documentation
Prepare prototype wiring documentation for new avionics systems
Assist installation technicians in troubleshooting installation wiring interconnects
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
Accept and complete projects and other miscellaneous aircraft engineering duties as assigned
Assist in coordination with FAA/ACO (Federal Aviation Administration / Aircraft Certification Office) and FAA/MIDO (Federal Aviation Administration / Manufacturing Inspection District Office)
Review product information including manuals and brochures for technical accuracy
Qualifications
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical, Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5 as a general rule)
Excellent interpersonal and written communications skills
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Preference will be given to those candidates who possess an FAA Systems and Equipment DER (Designated Engineering Representative) authorization
Experience in avionics installation design and certification
Detailed knowledge of FAA regulations
Thorough understanding of commercial avionics interface standards and their installation
