Description
The Principal Engineer is responsible for leading R&D activities from concept all the way through launch of the product including analyzing, prototyping, testing and validating the product The Principal Engineer may serve as either as an R&D core team member, project leader or both for a cross functional product development teams including the manufacturing organization. As a project leader, Principal Engineer will maintain timelines, run cross functional team, and provide reports/ updates to the larger organization.
GENERAL FUNCTIONS
* Provide expert engineering skill. * Plan and lead cross-functional product development projects, from concept to manufacturing. * Lead cross-functional planning, coordination, and reviews. * Maintain an overview of relevant technologies and products. * Collaborate in the evaluation and assessment of competitive products, processes or new trends. * Ensure compliance with BD quality policies, procedures, and practices through appropriate communication, training, and education of sound quality assurance principles. * Ensure compliance with all local, state, federal, and BD safety regulations, policies, and procedures.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Project Leadership:
* Technology development: Conceive and develop novel technologies to advance business goals. * Product development: Conceive and develop novel product concepts to advance business goals. Responsible for solving advanced technical problems. Plan, implement, monitor and deliver designated products. Provide cross-functional leadership. Be accountable for projects' success. * Resourcing: Ensure projects are resourced appropriately. Participate in selection and development of best technical talent. Participate in assessment of associates' technical skills. * Technology transfer: Implement efficient and effective transition from research to development to manufacturing. * Partnership: Identify, establish working relationships with, and leverage best-in-class product and technology development partners.
Organizational Development
* Associate development: Actively mentor associates in related technical roles. Provide technical direction and frequent feedback. Participate and assist in their success. Continue to raise the bar on technical skills and help associates rise to expectations. Advise management of technical needs and desired skill mix.
Leadership

Qualifications
POSITION Qualifications:
* BS Engineering, preferably mechanical or Biomedical and experience in product development. Advanced Degree Desired * Minimum 6 years of experience in engineering preferably in the pharmaceutical and/or medical device industry with successful track record of delivering products to market or developing commercially viable technology * Strong technical leadership skills. * Strong interpersonal and influence skills. * Strong technical judgment. * Strong communication skills. * Team Orientation * Strong skills in project planning and leadership. * Strong understanding of disciplined product development processes, regulatory and quality requirements.
