Reporting to the R&D Director, the R&D Project Engineer will provide functional R&D product development expertise as a Core Team Member on projects of significant complexity relating to BD Diagnostics/Preanalytical Systems products. This person will lead the technical efforts of extended team members, or lead project teams as required on projects of smaller scope.

Responsibilities include:

1. Develops and maintains state of the art knowledge of PAS products through formal and informal training, technical reviews, customer visits and general business exposure. Strives for Innovation.
2. Has thorough knowledge in and is responsible for the product development efforts relating to disposable medical devices. Has knowledge of plastic and or metal component design with due consideration to injection molding and high-speed assembly processes.
3. Is directly responsible for: the generation of product specifications, product validations, and product performance through clinical trials, functional laboratory testing, and all product development documentation. Ensures product safety and efficacy and quality. Complies with all corporate, and segment standards, policies and guidelines.
4. Commands an understanding of the product development cycle, Design For Six Sigma (DFSS) tools and the Global Product Develoopment System (GDPS) process. Is skilled at translating concepts/ideas through feasibility and prototypes to commercialization.
5. Works effectively through others to achieve objectives. Acts as a team player by displaying common vision, dependability, and a willingness to compromise. Can direct, manage & support scheduling for team activities. Demonstrates developing leadership capabilities.
6. Responsible for directing the efforts of other team members within the scope of the project assignment.
7. Utilize project management tools to plan and execute tasks and deliver results on schedule. Develops and communicates contingency plans as appropriate. Completes action plans.
8. Anticipates and resolves technical issues inside/outside areas of expertise. Takes action to overcome obstacles and achieve project objectives
9. Supports the PAS intellectual property strategy by documenting data and independent, unique and patentable ideas that result from experimentations and concept generation. Maintain a laboratory notebook.
10. Travels as required by project scope and timing.
11. Accountable for the development and release of products that meet specifications and performance claims. Ensures that appropriate scientific and engineering practices are employed throughout all phases of his/her assignment.
12. Accountable for achieving results on assignments ranging from moderate to complex.

Qualifications

* Ability to demonstrate application of fundamental engineering principles and techniques
* Project Management Experience
* Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering discipline with 8+ years of experience or
* Masters Degree in Engineering discipline desirable with 6+ years of experience or
* Ph.D. in Engineeringing discipline desirable with 5+ years of experience
