Director-Business Unit (Civil Engineering)
Key Responsibilities:
- Promote services offered by the Business Unit to potential clientele within the designated territory, working in a collaborative manner with the various other Business Unit Directors in developing business for the territory.
- Support business development efforts by taking time to meet with clients on upcoming or future mandates or in the aim of developing potential markets.
- Manage human resources within the Business Unit, comprising of supervising a staff of 10 to 15 individuals across a variety of disciplines (engineers, technicians, administrative support staff, and contractors).
- Determine project requirements, coordinate across the various disciplines involved and handle inter-office communications, coordinating between the various players involved internally on larger-scale projects.
- Provide support to the Business Unit Project Managers in determining the breadth of the project, establishing schedules and calendars for delivery, following up on deadlines and objectives to be met the clients terms and conditions, and in ensuring quality control procedures are carried out on any work subcontracted out to third parties (Contractors).
- Act as the main point of contact for the on-site team and carry out quality control on technical elements for certain projects when required.
- Coordinate the request-for-proposals process, supervising both the writing of the initial request and the assessment of quotations received in accordance with the quality criteria currently in place within the organization.
- Manage and adhere to the budget for the current financial year, including expenses for any staff training and development needs within the division, also forecasting and planning budgets for the upcoming financial year.
- Act as an interface in communications between the client, the various contractors and operational units working on any given project.
- Supervise and coordinate all paperwork internally such as engineering plans and drafting process, expertise reports and technical reports, quotations and engineering-based documentation.
Qualifications:
- Degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Electrical Engineering or other equivalent studies.
- A minimum of 10 years relevant experience in managing a business unit, department or division related to mechanical, civil or electrical building engineering in a reputed Canadian business offering consulting engineering services.
- Be a registered member of APEGS or eligible to register.( Saskatchewan Association of Professional Engineers)
- Post-graduate studies in Management (MBA or M.Sc.) would be an asset.
- Proven track record in business development or as a corporate account manager.
- Solid experience in personnel management (at least 8 staff).
- Exceptional communication skills (verbal and written).
- Strong sense of leadership, able to work under great pressure and has a sense of urgency.
- Mobile for business travel throughout the designated territory (frequency to be determined).
