JOB TITLE: Senior Electrical Engineer

LOCATION: Maine, Pennsylvania

Kleinschmidt Associates is an employee-owned consulting firm of engineers, scientists and planners specializing in engineering and environmental work relating to energy and water resources across the United States. Kleinschmidt assists corporate, utility and public sector clients in creatively solving engineering and environmental challenges related to hydroelectric projects and watershed issues.

Kleinschmidt is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to fill an opening in our Maine or Pennsylvania offices. Minimum requirements include a BS degree in Electrical Engineering with at least 10 years of progressive work experience on varied industrial and utility power projects. Preferred candidates will have expertise with power systems design, transmission & distribution power equipment, protective relaying, network communication protocols, grounding systems design, utility interconnection requirements, and is a PE or has the ability to obtain professional registration within one year of hire. The successful candidate must also possess a working knowledge of the National Electric Code (NEC), National Electric Safety Code (NESC), and other applicable codes and standards, as well as have excellent analytical, written and oral communication skills.

Typical duties performed by a successful candidate include:

  • Exercises good judgment in evaluating, selecting, adapting and modifying standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.
  • Conceptualizes the initial electrical design approach for major phases of large facility projects, or is responsible for the electrical engineering work on a limited scope project.
  • Supervises the design and ongoing progress of a project, including the coordination of the project with agency officials.
  • Resolves a variety of complex problems, (i.e., conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, difficult coordination requirements).
  • Serves as a liaison between clients and agencies, subcontractors, and design teams. Reviews plans and prepares or reviews technical specifications, contract documents, and estimates.
  • Participates in contract bidding and administration; observes project action on site.
  • Supervises the work of less experienced engineers and/or technical support personnel assigned to the project.
  • Performs other duties assigned by a Project Engineer or Project Manager.
