Civil Engineer - Structural Design - Buildings

Key Responsibilities

• Design structural systems and elements for new and existing buildings.
• Assess structural systems and elements in existing buildings for upgrading, renovations and retrofits including report preparation.
• Undertake design calculations and ensure the plans correspond to guidelines, code prescriptions and other regulations.
• Coordinate structural designs with other disciplines (architectural, mechanical, electrical, civil, etc.).
• Establish and maintain relations with the clients in order to define their needs, explain technical information, concepts or study results.
• Prepare project budget.
• Prepare proposals, estimates and other technical documents.
• Supervise the work of the Technicians and support staff appointed to the project.
• Assist project manager as required.
• Participate in project management and on-site project reviews during construction and assist during commissioning.
• Perform all other related tasks that will help accomplish the project.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in Civil/Structural Engineering majoring in Building Structures.
• Minimum 5 years relevant experience in Canada in the building design field.
• Registered as a Professional Engineer with APEGM; or with another Canadian licensing organization with the ability to acquire APEGM registration within 6 months.
• Expertise in cold climate buildings structural design, especially foundations, columns, beams, joists, flooring systems, building envelope systems, ect, with high degree of familiarity with the Manitoba Building Code.
• Experience in engineering consulting will be considered an asset.
• Good initiative, attention to details.
• Ability to work in a team environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
